Livin' it Up on The Southside

If you were to walk by our home, you would see Eric in the garage working on the "Hot Rod." Chase riding his bike up and down the sidewalk like a madman, and Rachel (myself) chasing (we named him well!) after him, telling him to slow down, and Anthony trying to be just like his big brother.

Yearly Physical's

We went to the doctor yesterday for a 3 year old and 6 year old check up. Chase weighs 44 lbs. and is 44 inches tall. Anthony weighs 38 lbs. and is 38 inches tall. How weird is that? I can't believe Anthony is three years younger and is only 6 pounds behind his brother. Both check up's should have been painless, but I requested a food allergy panel be done on Anthony, since it has been two years. Perhaps things have changed. For Chase, the doctor decided she wanted his blood drawn to check his iron. A year ago he was anemic. They are also offering a Hepatitis A shot. Anthony has had his, but they didn't have it when Chase was younger. So I said yes, he should have it. That immediately starts Chase crying. So I decided to have Anthony go first, because if he sees Chase carrying on about a finger prick, they will never get his blood.

The nurse pricks Anthony's finger and he didn't even move. He did so awesome. The had to fill up three tubes, so by the third one he looked at me and said it is hurting, but he never cried. So then it was Chase's turn. The minutes she pricked him he was bawling and he did the whole time. Good news, he is not anemic. I have been giving him Flintstone vitamins with Iron. They are doing the job!

They also took a urine sample from Chase. I told them I thought his urine was cloudy. So the doctor comes back and says they think he might have an infection. So we started him on antibiotics last night. We should get the results of the culture tomorrow. I should have realized. He was going to the bathroom a lot and he had several accidents. It didn't dawn on me!

So a short routine trip to the doctors, ended up taking an hour and a half, and we go back in two weeks for Chase to get his shot!

Bees

I forgot to share what happened last Tuesday. Anthony woke up and said his tummy hurt. I thought he was hungry, because he had gotten out of bed at 9:30pm and wanted a snack. I said he could have a cheese stick. He didn't like that answer. So I gave Anthony some cereal. Ten minutes later it all came up. He then proceeded to throw up three more times. I would give him some water and it came right back up. He took a two hour nap woke up and said he was hungry. I said he could have crackers. He kept those down. He then had a jelly sandwich. He then asked for Macaroni and cheese. He ate that. He then asked for yogurt and ate that. It all stayed down, so it was short lived.

In the meanwhile I told Chase he could have a friend over. They were playing outside and the next thing I know Chase comes running into the house screaming, "Bees, bees, they are everywhere." I get him to stand still and see that there are four bees on his socks. I killed them and then looked to see where he had been stung. He had six bee stings! One by his armpit, one on his elbow and two on each leg. Apparently he found a bees nest in the grass. Thankfully his friend didn't get stung at all.

I sent his friend home and got Chase upstairs. I got some cold compresses and then made some baking soda paste to put on them. I also gave him ibuprofin and benedryl. He had never been stung before, and I didn't know what to expect. He kept saying he was never going outside again. After three hours or so he was able to walk normal and said it wasn't hurting too bad. By bedtime he was bouncing off the walls. So he recovered nicely, and he has been outside to play.

Omaha

We went to Omaha the weekend of July 19th. We wanted to visit Miranda and Rob and to check out their new apartment and Lisa's new one as well. A two hour car ride seems like nothing compared to 6.5 to WI.

Saturday we took the boys to the Omaha Zoo. It was a mad house. Eric made a parking spot for us up on the grassy curb. Other cars were doing it too, so why not. It was hot and humid, and I had decided to bring the umbrella stroller. Chase was upset that I didn't bring the wagon. I know he is very capable of walking, but after 30 minutes he wanted to be in the stroller. So he and Anthony took turns. I have a zoo pass for the Blank Park Zoo here in Des Moines, Omaha gives a discount for showing it. We saved $7 a ticket, so we splurged and bought train tickets.

We went to the Desert Dome first and went downstairs through the nocturnal exhibits. They also had a swamp we walked through. We then went through the desert. It wasn't long and the boys were saying they wanted to eat. So we got them corn dogs and then went to the aquarium. The boys thought the penguins and sharks were great. We saved the train for last, which gave us a tour of the back part of the zoo. We got to see the elephants, rhinos, giraffe's and zebra's. We put in three hours and then Anthony was sawing logs. So we headed for home.

Once we got back to Miranda and Rob's we all took naps. It was wonderful. I didn't want to get up! Rob said he would make his original sloppy joe's, while we went to visit Lisa. She only lives five minutes from them. We sat there and visited. Aunt Lisa had Sunny D in small bottles. The boys thought that was just wonderful. We then headed back to have dinner. Rob makes a fantastic sloppy joe. He says steak sauce is the key. Chase ate two sandwiches, that says a lot! It was fun to get away and spend time with the family.

Someday

We were eating dinner last night and Chase said he would really like it if we could go to
"Jumping Jacks" again. I turned to him and said, "Someday." He looks over at the calendar and then back at me and says, "I see Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. But I don't see Someday!" Eric and broke out laughing. He got me on that one. I wasn't ready to commit to a date. It will have to be spur of the moment. He accepted that for now.
